In the year 1997 the Austrian pianist Volkahrd Iglseder started to turn his vision of a renewal of the well-tried trio format into reality. The experienced bassist Horst ‚Sandy‘ Sonntagbauer from Wels and the innovative drummer Bernhard Wittgruber from Graz complete the band, both as congenial partners and friends. With their fascinating mixture of European jazz and classical – romantic music – the three musicians of triotonic have won the hearts of their audiences. In this instrumentation, which has not changed since 1999, triotonic are among the most renowned trios in Austria. No matter whether performing along with bleu and café drechsler or the haydn trio eisenstadt the work of triotonic is always affected by both quality and originality. Their first CD “sensitive” came out in 2001 and caused fantastic reactions from both the audience and the press. With their new CD „homecoming“ triotonic are consequently continuing their way of individualisation – many new influences have been processed and the sound has even been more arranged for every single musician of the band. In the eleven songs on “homecoming” melancholic silence and hymnal euphoria melt into a charismatic vision of timeless music. The style swings between groove and lyric. In compositions like tomorrow or vanished days these moods meet and although being controversial, they achieve a stirring effect. The musicians openly deal with the most different influences from swing, rock and world. ... triotonic are not simply trying to imitate role models. They clearly develop their very own style. All of the three musicians are equally dealing with rhythmical and harmonic agendas. This leads to a very compact and multi.-layered sound.
