on "homecoming"
I advocate the adjective "beautiful". I have wanted this adjective to be rehabilitated for a long time, simply speaking. Homecoming sounds beautiful.
spotsZ 2006 (A), Reinhard Winkler
Jazz ?? I would describe it as a score without a film. Not judged in a negative way but associatively. Small pictures moving inside your head. A trio conquering the worlds of sound. Exciting and calmative at the same time. Actually triotonic remind of bands like The Nice, Procul Harum or Triumvirat. No plagiarism, but sounds which bring out something new. Harmonies which are not boring but consistent with the grooves. Good instrumental music, you are not in danger of falling asleep. Be desperate to listen!

The Austrain trio around Volkhard Iglseder, who have been playing together in the classical constellation (piano/bass/drums) since 1999, have recently brought out their second album - "homecoming". Impressive because of being discreet, delicate nuances, lots of feeling and the perfect sense for the right degree.
Frank Becker, Online Musik Magazin (D)
.With their latest release the Upper-Austrian trio deliver a fantastically independent composition..
CHEF INFO (A)
The eleven pieces are a real pleasure. The three musicians have found their own distinctive language without trying to imitate role models.

To Austria. Pianist Volkhard Iglseder lives in the small town of Hörsching. Together with his trio - triotonic - he has brought out their second CD "homecoming". Iglseder and his two fellow musicians, bassist Horst Sonntagbauer Bernhard Wittgruber on drums, are decicated to a European style and bring out both an atmospheric and passionate jazz on the one hand and a melancholic and hymnal like jazz on the other hand. There is surely more to come from this trio.
Martin Laurentius, Jazztihng (D)
The self composed pieces are performed with a lot of feeling, discreetly performed and very expressive whenever the ensemble passages lead to a collective expression...
Andi´s Jazzecke (D)
... triotonic are not simply trying to imitate role models. They clearly develop their very own style. All of the three musicians are equally dealing with rhythmical and harmonic agendas. This leads to a very compact and multi-layered sound. This special sound is unique about the eleven compositions

.. As they are neither trying to be mainstream nor trying to stick to standards the pleasantly unexcited rebels are very close a re-invention of the piano trio amidst the area of conflict between jazz and electrical music. Iglseder and his mates are keen on experimenting. Experiments with sounds, structures leading to amazing results.

on "sensitive"
Soulful, melancholic, sensual, simply making you dream. Groovy, ruminant. You might simply run out of words when describing tritonic's CD "sensitive".
Tips (A)
...The compositions are sensitive. A linking element between modern jazz and classical music - with lots of emotions. Music has to touch, has to affect, has to cause reactions. In this way Iglseder and his partners transport nothing but feelings - and they catch on.
Oberösterreichische Nachrichten (A)
At first, you'll be struck by Sensitive's simplicity - but like a Rothko or a Barnett Newman painting, this is patient art whose subtlety isn't easily noticed.
Splendid magazine (US)
The Austrian jazz - piano trio play their way through nine of their compositions with an easy-going, lyrical expression.
Jazzthing (D)
..triotonic are perfectly capable of challenging both heart and brain, of setting free emotions and of transforming feelings and fantasies into music.
X-ACT (A)
...In times of blithering and blatant productions a CD like this appears to be an anachronism. The last time I heard anything that simple, modest and tremendously beautiful in sound was twenty years ago on old ECM records.
Concerto (A)
With the help of subtle ostinato Iglseder directs the listener's attention on the mostly defeatingly beautiful pieces. A canny move, which pays off. Piano News (D)
...Moods are most important for triotonic. The three gentlemen describe, just like in Bred Mehldaus's former compositions, feelings which incorporate their jazz. You don't get lost in harmonic irrelevance. They deliver a statement. I have to say I like it a lot.
jazzzeit (A)
The present CD contains nine pieces, which have all been both elegantly arranged and interpreted. This trio really shows that there is good "Modern jazz" in Austria, too. jazzlive (A)
